Sepulveda Transit Corridor: What’s at Stake for LA

The Sepulveda Transit Corridor (STC) Project is one of the most significant transportation investments ever proposed for Los Angeles, aiming to relieve severe congestion between the San Fernando Valley and the Westside. Led by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), the project would deliver a high-capacity rail connection through one of the most constrained and heavily traveled corridors in the region, with a future extension to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

In June 2025, Metro released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR), evaluating five project alternatives that vary by technology, alignment, and station locations. Across all options, the STC Project is projected to significantly reduce travel times, attract tens of thousands of daily riders, and cut hundreds of thousands of vehicle miles traveled—supporting improved mobility, cleaner air, and long-term regional resiliency.

To understand the broader economic implications of this investment, the LAEDC Institute for Applied Economics conducted an in-depth economic impact analysis of the STC Project. The report evaluates how construction and long-term operations could support jobs, income, business activity, and public revenues across both the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County.
