Historic Milestone: Over $1.1 Million to be Distributed to 90 Grassroots Community-Based Organizations Driving Economic Progress in Los Angeles County through the California Jobs First Initiative

Empowering Grassroots Voices for Inclusive Economic Development

April 22, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA – The California Jobs First Initiative, in partnership with the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) and the California Community Foundation (CCF), has announced a historic milestone in the pursuit of economic progress in Los Angeles County. We are proud to unveil the list of 90 grassroots organizations that have been chosen to receive funding through our initiative.

These organizations, representing the vibrant fabric of communities across Los Angeles County, will serve as pivotal partners in driving inclusive economic growth. Through their diverse perspectives and dedicated efforts, they will help shape our region’s future.

“The response to our call for applications has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Charles Johnson, Program Director for the California Jobs First Initiative – Los Angeles County Region. “We received an overwhelming 216 submissions, demonstrating the shared commitment across our communities to championing economic prosperity for all.”

Each of the selected organizations will receive funding to support their efforts as Subregional Table Partner Leads. In this role, they will spearhead outreach and engagement initiatives, ensuring that the voices and needs of all communities are heard and prioritized in the development of our regional economic roadmap for Los Angeles County.

“This funding represents more than just financial support; it’s a recognition of the vital role that grassroots organizations play in driving positive change,” emphasized Stephen Cheung, President and CEO of the LAEDC. “These organizations are the boots on the ground, equipped with the invaluable ability to gather lived data essential for ensuring the voices of our underserved communities are not only heard but included in the development of our regional economic roadmap. We are proud to partner with these organizations as we work together to build a community-led, climate forward economy for Los Angeles County.”
