LAEDC’s new report on LA’s industries shows region’s strengths

Some readers may have missed a big report that LAEDC’s Institute for Applied Economics published near Thanksgiving.  It is a must-see summary of the top industries in Los Angeles County, providing wages, employment levels and data about the subsectors in major industries.  This data, compiled from 2019 statistics (most recent dataset available) sets a baseline for understanding the impacts of the COVID pandemic, and helps readers understand the unique conditions of the major sectors of our massive regional economy.

Loaded with graphics, the report is a quick visual read that helps inform progress on economic and workforce goals in LA County.

Using “industry cluster” definitions advanced by Harvard University’s Michael Porter, this LAEDC analysis is a better framework for sizing and understanding LA’s industries with more relevant statistics than are typically found in raw government labor market reports.
