Autonomous vehicles are coming, but will California be merely a consumer of those technologies, or will we develop them, building an industry with living wage jobs?  LA already has significant competitive strength in autonomous vehicle technologies with many good jobs in that field of design and engineering, but other states and other nations are quickly trying to leapfrog our regional efforts.  SB 59 provides some guiding principles that will improve understanding of how R&D, deployment and road use of these vehicles will be permitted by the state of California.  LAEDC sees great potential for jobs and industry growth in this high tech field, and has issued the following support letter for SB 59.
