Steven G. Cochrane, Managing Director of Moody’s Analytics
Steven G. Cochrane is managing director of Moody’s Analytics. Steve oversees the U.S. regional forecasting service and directs the research and development activities of the research staff. He also edits the Regional Financial Review, the firm’s monthly publication that analyzes U.S. macro, regional, industry and international trends. Many of Dr. Cochrane’s consulting projects focus on state and local economic development. An analyst with Moody’s Analytics since 1993, Dr. Cochrane has been featured on Wall Street Radio, the PBS NewsHour, and CNBC. He earned a PhD in regional science at the University of Pennsylvania and is a Penn Institute for Urban Research Scholar. Steve earned a master’s degree at the University of Colorado at Denver, and a bachelor’s degree at the University of California at Davis. His expertise on regional U.S. economic issues makes him a popular speaker at client conferences and executive briefings.
Scudder Smith, Principal Consultant International Trade & Transportation – Parsons Brinckerhoff
Scudder Smith is a Principal Consultant with Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Strategic Consulting group. He is currently engaged in a study of impacts of Panama Canal expansion for the US Maritime Administration and US DOT. He has been a consultant on market analysis and demand forecasting for the Panama Canal Authority in support of both expansion planning and international financing. He has worked on due diligence studies for many of the major port-related financial transactions during the past decade as well as numerous US and international freight planning studies for public and private clients. He earned Masters and undergraduate degrees from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and is a member of the Transportation Research Board International Trade and Transportation Committee.

Ferdinando “Nando” Guerra is formerly the International Economist in the Kyser Center for Economic Research at LAEDC.
Dr. Robert A. Kleinhenz, Chief Economist – Kyser Center for Economic Research, LAEDC
Dr. Kleinhenz directs the Kyser Center for Economic Research, which conducts research on the regional, state, and national economies. He has over 25 years of experience and expertise in the private and public sectors, academia, and working as a private consultant. Dr. Kleinhenz has spoken to local, state, and national audiences and is a frequent contributor to media coverage on the economy, including coverage in news outlets throughout California along with the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Bloomberg News, and NPR.
Prior to joining the LAEDC, he served as Deputy Chief Economist at the California Association of REALTORS®. He also taught economics for over 15 years, most recently at California State University, Fullerton. He is a member of the National Association for Business Economics (Vice Chair, Regional Roundtable), the National Association for Business Economics, Los Angeles Chapter (Past President, Past Treasurer), and the Real Estate Research Council of Southern California (Current Executive Board Member and Treasurer). Dr. Kleinhenz has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree and a Doctorate from the University of Southern California, all in Economics.
